Mammotion has taken the covers off the LUBA 4 AWD, its next-generation robotic lawn mower for large, complicated gardens. Unveiled at IFA Berlin on 4 September 2026, it builds on the LUBA formula with four-camera vision, 360° LiDAR, independent front-wheel steering and — on two models — an optional edge-trimming attachment.
For anyone in Ireland weighing up a new wire-free robotic lawn mower, the interesting question is not just what does LUBA 4 do? It's what has genuinely improved, which model suits your lawn and is it worth waiting for? Here is what we know so far.
What is new on the Mammotion LUBA 4 AWD?
1. Four cameras, 360° LiDAR and NetRTK working together
The new Surround Quad-Vision system uses four wide-angle cameras, arranged at the front and rear, alongside 360° LiDAR and NetRTK positioning. Mammotion describes this as its Tri-Fusion navigation system, designed to combine visual obstacle recognition, environmental scanning and satellite-based positioning.
The company says the mower can recognise more than 300 types of objects. For a typical Irish garden — with trees, beds, outdoor furniture and several separate mowing areas — the goal is more dependable navigation in places where relying on one source of positioning can be difficult.
There is no boundary wire to bury and, unlike installations requiring a local RTK reference antenna, the NetRTK approach is designed not to need one. You should still check network and Mammotion iNavi service coverage for your location before buying.
2. Independent front-wheel steering and bidirectional mowing
This may be the most significant mechanical change. Rather than relying exclusively on pivot-style turns, the LUBA 4's independently steered front wheels allow a more natural turning arc. It can also work in either direction, reducing the number of full turns it needs to make.
Why does that matter? On soft or damp ground, repeated tight turns can mark or disturb the grass. Mammotion's redesigned AWD, steering and suspension system is intended to reduce that effect while retaining traction over uneven ground. It is a promising design change, although the real-world difference will depend on soil and weather conditions.
3. An optional automatic edge trimmer — with one important catch
The LUBA 4 range introduces an optional retractable edge-trimming module for cutting grass beyond the reach of the main discs. If your lawn meets walls, beds or other awkward boundaries, this could reduce the strimming left after the robotic mower has finished.
The catch: this is an extra-cost accessory, compatible with the 3000F and 6000F, but not the 12000F. It is worth factoring that into your choice before simply buying the model with the highest mowing capacity. Edge design will still influence how much hand-finishing remains.
4. Wide cutting, strong traction and adaptive charging
Every LUBA 4 AWD model retains Mammotion's published ability to tackle slopes up to 80% (38.6°) and cross obstacles up to 60 mm, within operating limits. The 3000F and 6000F use twin cutting discs with a 440 mm combined width; the 12000F moves to three discs and 530 mm.
Mammotion also describes an adaptive recharge system that estimates how much energy is needed to complete the remaining work, rather than necessarily performing a full recharge each time it returns to base.
LUBA 4 AWD 3000F vs 6000F vs 12000F: which should you choose?
| Specification | LUBA 4 AWD 3000F | LUBA 4 AWD 6000F | LUBA 4 AWD 12000F |
|---|---|---|---|
| Max. rated mowing area | 3,000 m² | 6,000 m² | 12,000 m² |
| Max. mowing zones | 30 | 50 | 100 |
| Cutting width | 440 mm | 440 mm | 530 mm |
| Cutting discs | 2 | 2 | 3 |
| Cutting height | 25–95 mm | 25–95 mm | 25–85 mm |
| Battery capacity | 12.75 Ah | 15.3 Ah | 15.3 Ah |
| Max. rated slope | 80% (38.6°) | 80% (38.6°) | 80% (38.6°) |
| Optional edge-trimming module | Yes | Yes | No |
Our early view: the 3000F looks best matched to sizeable domestic lawns where a separate edge-trimming attachment could be useful. The 6000F extends capacity while keeping that accessory option. The 12000F is for exceptionally large lawns or grounds where a wider triple-disc deck and more mowing zones take priority over automated edge trimming.
Do not choose based on the square-metre figure alone. Narrow passages, slopes, trees, disconnected areas and realistic mowing schedules all influence how much ground a machine can maintain.
LUBA 4 vs LUBA 3: is it worth waiting?
The LUBA 3 range already offers capable wire-free mowing and all-wheel drive, so LUBA 4 is not a reason for every owner to replace a functioning mower. The more relevant improvements appear to be all-round camera awareness, a redesigned steering system, bidirectional movement and the optional trimming module.
If you need a mower now, our existing Mammotion robot lawn mower range is worth considering. If your main frustration with previous robot mowers has been marked grass at turning points, challenging navigation or leftover lawn edges, the LUBA 4 merits a closer look once final production machines are available.
When does the Mammotion LUBA 4 launch in Ireland?
Mammotion has announced that European pre-orders are expected to open in Q4 2026. As of 22 October 2026, the company has not confirmed final Irish pricing, an exact order-opening date or a shipping schedule. The pre-order window should not be confused with a guaranteed delivery date.
At northXsouth, we will update our Mammotion LUBA 4 AWD Ireland collection as official information and individual model listings become available.
Frequently asked questions
Does LUBA 4 need a boundary wire or separate RTK antenna?
No perimeter wire is required. LUBA 4 uses NetRTK, LiDAR and camera navigation, so it is designed to operate without installing a separate on-site RTK reference station. Service coverage and site conditions still matter.
Which LUBA 4 can use automatic edge trimming?
Only the 3000F and 6000F are compatible with the optional trimming attachment. Mammotion says the 12000F is not compatible.
Can the LUBA 4 mow steep Irish gardens?
All three models are rated for slopes of up to 80% (38.6°). That is a maximum specification, not a promise for all wet, uneven or slippery surfaces.
How much will the Mammotion LUBA 4 cost in Ireland?
Irish prices have not yet been confirmed. We'll add pricing once Mammotion releases the final regional details.
