2,040-zone SQD-Mini LED backlight

The 65C8L divides its Mini LED backlight into 2,040 Precise Dimming Zones. Each zone can be controlled according to the picture, allowing the television to illuminate a bright object without lifting the entire surrounding black level.

This is particularly valuable with films containing dark skies, space scenes, night-time cityscapes or bright subtitles over a black background. TCL’s All-domain Halo Control Technology is designed to keep light within the appropriate area of the picture, reducing blooming and preserving finer shadow detail.

Up to 5,000 nits HDR brightness

This 65-inch model reaches up to 5,000 nits, a substantial increase over the 3,000-nit specification of the 55C8L. The additional brightness gives HDR highlights greater intensity and helps the picture remain clear and engaging in rooms where daylight or artificial lighting would challenge a less powerful display.

TCL’s dynamic dimming and light-control processing balance this brightness against the local dimming system, so darker parts of the picture can remain controlled while bright details retain their impact.

WHVA 2.0 Ultra panel

The 65C8L uses TCL’s upgraded WHVA 2.0 Ultra panel rather than the HVA 2.0 Pro panel found on the 55-inch version. Its high-contrast liquid-crystal structure, Ultra Colour Filter and low-reflection treatment are designed to improve native contrast, maintain colour accuracy and reduce distracting room reflections.

The wider viewing characteristics are especially useful on a 65-inch television, where family members and guests are more likely to be seated across a broader area of the room.

Super QLED with up to 100% BT.2020 colour

Super QLED technology provides an extremely wide range of colours, with TCL quoting coverage of up to 100% of the BT.2020 colour gamut. This allows saturated colours to remain intense while supporting more subtle differences in skin tones, landscapes and cinematic colour grading.

The Ultra Colour Filter also helps prevent unwanted colour contamination between neighbouring Mini LED zones, preserving cleaner whites and more stable colour throughout bright and dark scenes.

TSR AiPQ Processor

TCL’s TSR AiPQ Processor uses AI-assisted picture analysis to improve clarity, contrast, colour and motion. The processor can distinguish between different types of content and apply appropriate optimisation rather than treating every source in exactly the same way.

This is useful when moving between 4K streaming, lower-resolution television broadcasts, films, sport and games, helping each source make better use of the high-resolution panel.

144Hz native gaming and sport

The 144Hz native refresh rate improves motion clarity in fast sport, action sequences and compatible high-frame-rate games. The television’s full signal path supports 4K at up to 144Hz, while TCL’s 288 VRR Game Accelerator is available for supported gaming sources.

The Gamebar brings important gaming adjustments together in one accessible interface, allowing settings to be checked or changed without navigating through multiple television menus.

Bang & Olufsen audio

Audio by Bang & Olufsen gives the C8L a more premium built-in sound presentation than a conventional flat-screen television. The speaker system has been tuned to improve vocal clarity, tonal balance and the sense of space around music, films and live sport.

Beosonic allows the sound character to be personalised through an on-screen control, making it easy to favour greater clarity, warmth, energy or spaciousness according to the content.

Google TV and TCL AI

Google TV brings streaming applications, personalised recommendations and connected entertainment together through a familiar smart interface. Compatible phones, tablets and computers can share content using Google Cast, Chromecast or Apple AirPlay 2.

TCL AI provides additional cinema, gaming, artwork and ambient features. Art Gallery and Ambient Mode can transform the screen into part of the room when conventional television content is not being watched.

Slim integrated construction

Despite its powerful Mini LED backlight, the 65C8L uses a one-piece rear panel and Micro-OD construction to maintain a slim, cohesive appearance. The 65-inch size provides a substantial cinematic upgrade without requiring the installation space of an 85 or 98-inch screen.
