The TCL 98C8L 98-inch SQD-Mini LED 4K Smart TV is the largest model in the C8L range and is designed to deliver a true large-format home-cinema experience. Its enormous 98-inch screen is backed by 4,032 Precise Dimming Zones and brightness reaching up to 6,000 nits, providing the fine backlight control required to preserve contrast, shadow detail and HDR impact across such an expansive display. 4,032-zone SQD-Mini LED backlight

The 98C8L uses 4,032 Precise Dimming Zones—the highest zone count of any C8L screen size. This dense local-dimming system is essential on a 98-inch display because each backlight zone must remain sufficiently small to control bright and dark areas accurately.

Individual highlights can be illuminated without raising the complete black level of the surrounding image. This improves the appearance of star fields, night-time scenes, illuminated buildings, subtitles and other content containing sharp transitions between bright and dark areas.

TCL All-domain Halo Control Technology

TCL combines advanced Mini LED chips, super-condensed micro lenses, light-control algorithms and dynamic dimming to manage how light is produced and distributed. The micro-lens system directs light more accurately towards the panel, helping improve backlight uniformity and reduce visible halos.

Light and Shadow Control processing then adjusts the interaction between each zone according to the scene, preserving finer gradations between brilliant highlights and near-black detail.

Up to 6,000 nits HDR brightness

The 98C8L reaches up to 6,000 nits HDR peak brightness. This provides the output required to maintain vivid highlights across a very large screen and gives premium HDR films, television and games a powerful sense of scale.

The brightness figure is the same as the 85C8L, but the 98-inch model increases the dimming-zone count from 3,200 to 4,032. Its main performance advantage is therefore finer light control across the larger display rather than an increase in headline brightness.

WHVA 2.0 Ultra panel

The WHVA 2.0 Ultra panel uses a high-contrast liquid-crystal structure and TCL’s Ultra Colour Filter to control light transmission more precisely. Dark areas appear deeper, bright areas remain clearer and the picture gains a stronger sense of depth.

A nanoscale low-reflection film reduces glare from windows and room lighting. Reflection control is particularly valuable on a 98-inch television because its large screen can otherwise act like a substantial reflective surface within the room.

Up to 100% BT.2020 Super QLED colour

Super QLED technology delivers an exceptionally wide range of colours, with TCL quoting up to 100% coverage of the BT.2020 colour gamut. The system is engineered to retain stable colour across monochrome, natural and highly saturated scenes.

Precise Colour Control reduces interference between neighbouring backlight zones, helping colours remain clean around detailed high-contrast objects.

TSR AiPQ Processor

The TSR AiPQ Processor analyses the incoming image and applies dedicated optimisation to clarity, contrast, colour and movement. This processing is especially important on a 98-inch screen, where compression, softness and motion artefacts from lower-quality sources become easier to notice.

High-quality 4K sources will provide the best results, but TCL’s AI processing helps television broadcasts and streamed content make more effective use of the large 4K panel.

144Hz native refresh and large-screen gaming

The 98C8L supports a native refresh rate of 144Hz, providing smoother motion for sport, action films and compatible gaming. The television’s signal path supports 4K at up to 144Hz, while the 288 VRR Game Accelerator offers additional high-frame-rate support for compatible sources.

The integrated Gamebar provides fast access to important gaming information and display settings. On a screen of this scale, racing, simulation and cinematic adventure games can deliver an experience closer to projection while retaining the brightness and contrast of a premium television.

Audio by Bang & Olufsen

The C8L’s built-in speaker system has been developed under the Audio by Bang & Olufsen programme. It uses a surround-style acoustic design to improve clarity, tonal detail and the spatial presentation of sound.

Beosonic allows the sound character to be personalised through a simple on-screen control. For a full dedicated cinema room, the 98C8L can still be paired with a suitable soundbar or separate home-cinema system, but the integrated speakers provide a more capable foundation than standard television audio.

Google TV and flexible casting

Google TV provides access to streaming applications, recommendations and connected entertainment through one interface. Content sharing is supported through Google Cast, Chromecast and Apple AirPlay 2.

TCL AI adds cinema, gaming, artwork and ambient-screen features. Art Gallery can display curated artwork when the television is not being used for conventional viewing, helping the large screen sit more naturally within the room.

Ultra-slim integrated design

A one-piece moulded rear panel and Micro-OD construction allow the 98C8L to maintain a relatively slim and integrated appearance despite its enormous screen and complex Mini LED backlight. Professional planning and installation should still be considered due to the physical scale and weight associated with a 98-inch television.
