Immersive 85-inch QD-Mini LED picture

Its 4K Ultra HD resolution provides the detail needed for such a large display, making it particularly well suited to larger living rooms and dedicated media spaces.

This 85-inch version features 264 precise local-dimming zones. Individual areas of the Mini LED backlight can be controlled independently, allowing bright highlights to remain vivid while darker parts of the picture appear deeper and more detailed.

TCL’s all-domain halo-control technology combines high-efficiency Mini LEDs, condensed micro-lens optics, Micro-OD construction, advanced processing and a high-contrast HVA panel. Together, these technologies help reduce the halo or blooming sometimes visible around bright objects against dark backgrounds.

Up to 700-nit HDR brightness

The TCL 85A400M reaches peak HDR brightness of up to 700 nits. Bright reflections, sunlight, flames and other highlights can therefore appear with greater impact, while improved local-dimming control helps retain detail in surrounding dark areas.

The high-native-contrast HVA panel adds further depth to dark scenes, making films and programmes appear more layered and cinematic. Automatic brightness control can also adapt the screen output to suit the lighting conditions within the room.

Support for Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG provides broad compatibility with HDR films, streaming programmes, television broadcasts and games. Dolby Vision IQ can adjust compatible Dolby Vision content according to the ambient lighting in the room.

Rich Quantum Dot colour

TCL’s QLED technology reproduces more than one billion colour shades and provides up to 93% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space. This gives films, sport and nature programmes richer colour, smoother gradients and more natural-looking skin tones.

The TSR AiPQ Processor analyses clarity, contrast, colour and motion in real time. Lower-resolution broadcasts and streamed content are intelligently processed to appear cleaner and more detailed when enlarged across the 85-inch 4K screen.

4K gaming at up to 144Hz

The TCL 85A400M supports gaming at up to 144Hz in 4K resolution with compatible consoles, PCs, cables and source material. The higher refresh rate helps fast movement appear smoother and clearer during racing, shooting, sports and action games.

Variable Refresh Rate synchronises the television with the frame rate produced by compatible gaming equipment, helping reduce screen tearing and stutter. Auto Low Latency Mode can automatically select a more responsive gaming mode when a compatible console is connected.

AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, HDMI 2.1 gaming features, TCL Game Master, Game Bar, Superwide Gameview and an on-screen aiming aid provide additional control and performance options for compatible games.

288Hz Game Accelerator at Full HD

The advertised 288Hz Game Accelerator operates at 1920 × 1080 Full HD resolution. It does not provide a 288Hz refresh rate when displaying games in 4K resolution.

Compatible PC users can select the lower Full HD resolution to access refresh rates of up to 288Hz, while 4K gaming is supported at up to 144Hz.

Google TV entertainment

Google TV brings streaming services, applications, live television and connected devices together through one straightforward home screen. Recommendations are based on viewing habits and supported subscriptions, making it easier to find something to watch without searching through each application separately.

Individual user profiles provide personalised recommendations for different members of the household, while the dedicated children’s profile includes parental controls and age-appropriate content options.

Apple AirPlay 2 allows compatible photos, music and video to be shared from an iPhone, iPad or Mac. Voice search and compatible smart-home controls are also available, subject to regional, account, language and service availability.

Art Gallery and Ambient Mode

When the television is not being used for regular viewing, its large 85-inch screen can display artwork, personal photographs, digital clocks and relaxing ambient scenes.

TCL’s Art Gallery includes a selection of classic, contemporary, abstract and pre-generated digital artwork. Personal photographs can also be displayed using a compatible mobile application, allowing the television to operate as a large digital photo frame.

Ambient Mode offers visual and audio scenes such as fireplaces, rain and ocean environments, helping the screen become part of the room rather than simply appearing as a blank black panel.

ONKYO sound with Dolby Atmos

The integrated ONKYO 2.0-channel audio system delivers 20 watts of speaker power through two 10-watt speakers. ONKYO tuning is designed to provide clear dialogue and balanced sound across films, television, gaming and live sport.

Dolby Atmos processing creates a greater sense of space and height with compatible soundtracks, while DTS:X and DTS Virtual:X support provide additional surround-sound processing options.

A compatible soundbar can be connected through HDMI eARC or the optical digital audio output. TCL’s Tutti Choral feature can also allow the television speakers and selected compatible TCL soundbars to work together for a broader soundstage.

Slim 41.9mm flat-back design

Despite its substantial 85-inch screen, the TCL 85A400M measures approximately 41.9mm deep across its flat-back screen cabinet. The minimal bezel and integrated unibody design create a cleaner appearance from both the front and side.

An appropriate ultra-slim wall bracket is required to achieve the closest possible fit against the wall. The television is also supplied with a fixed tabletop stand, with a maximum stand width of approximately 863mm.

TCL’s star-ring cooling system helps reduce heat build-up around the screen during longer viewing sessions, although ventilation requirements will depend on the installation and surrounding space.
