Professional-style carpet cleaning at home

Regular vacuuming removes loose dust, crumbs and surface debris, but it cannot wash away the dirt, oils and residue held deeper within the carpet pile. The VAX Platinum Power Max combines cleaning solution, powered agitation and strong liquid extraction to provide a much more intensive clean.

VAX states that the Platinum Power Max cleans carpets five times better than a high-performance vacuum cleaner, based on measured brightness and colour changes during comparative testing. It is designed to restore the appearance of heavily used living rooms, hallways, bedrooms and other carpeted areas where ordinary vacuuming is no longer enough.

The ECB1SPV1 is a dedicated carpet washer rather than a conventional dry vacuum. Carpets should therefore be vacuumed thoroughly before washing to remove loose debris and reduce the risk of hair or dirt collecting around the brushes.

XL brush bar with seven SpinScrub brushes

The wide floorhead combines an XL rotating brush bar with seven individual SpinScrub brushes. These brushes rotate against the carpet from different directions, helping to loosen dirt and agitate the fibres more thoroughly than a single conventional brush roll.

This multi-directional cleaning action is particularly useful for high-traffic areas where dirt has become embedded and the carpet pile has begun to look compressed or dull. The brushes work through the fibres to help revive the carpet’s appearance and restore some of its natural bounce.

Quick Clean for regular carpet maintenance

Quick Clean mode is designed for routine carpet refreshing when the floor does not require the most intensive wash. It applies less water than the deeper cleaning setting and focuses on removing everyday dirt while supporting a shorter drying time.

VAX states that carpets can be dry in as little as one hour when Quick Clean mode is used. Actual drying time will depend on carpet thickness, the number of wet passes, room temperature, ventilation and humidity.

For the best drying results, make additional passes with the solution trigger released. These dry passes allow the machine to continue extracting moisture without applying more water to the carpet.

Deep Clean mode for ground-in dirt

Select Deep Clean mode for heavily used carpets, more visible soiling and dirt that has settled deeper within the pile. This mode provides a more intensive wash and is suited to periodic whole-room cleaning rather than quick surface refreshing.

VAX states that the Platinum Power Max has been proven to clean more effectively than the leading rental carpet cleaner when tested in Deep Clean mode in accordance with the relevant IEC carpet-cleaning standard.

Because Deep Clean mode applies more solution, the carpet will normally require longer to dry. Avoid repeatedly saturating the same area and complete additional extraction passes before moving on.

Auto-Mix Technology takes out the guesswork

The water and cleaning solution are held separately inside the machine. Auto-Mix Technology combines and dispenses them at the correct concentration while you clean, eliminating the need to measure detergent directly into the main water tank.

This helps deliver consistent cleaning performance and reduces the risk of using too much solution, which can leave residue within the carpet or create excessive foam.

Any unused solution can be removed from the solution compartment and returned to its original bottle after cleaning, rather than being discarded with the remaining water.

Pre-treat stubborn stains before washing

The included Pre-Treatment Wand allows concentrated cleaning solution to be sprayed directly onto visible stains and heavily soiled areas before the full carpet wash begins.

VAX recommends allowing the pre-treatment solution to work for approximately 15 minutes before cleaning the carpet. This gives the formula time to loosen embedded dirt and makes the subsequent washing process more effective.

Pre-treatment is especially useful for older marks, tracked-in dirt and areas that have received more wear than the surrounding carpet. Always test cleaning products on an inconspicuous area first and follow the carpet manufacturer’s care instructions.

Motorised SpinScrub Hand Tool

Connect the 2.5-metre hose and motorised SpinScrub Hand Tool to tackle stubborn stains on stairs, rugs, upholstery and other smaller surfaces.

Unlike a basic suction nozzle, the hand tool uses powered rotating brushes to agitate the surface while cleaning solution is applied. This helps loosen embedded grime and provides more intensive spot cleaning in areas the main upright floorhead cannot reach.

The rotating tool is particularly useful on carpeted stairs and durable upholstery where dirt has settled into the fibres. Check the item’s care label before wet cleaning and avoid use on water-sensitive materials.

Upholstery cleaning around the home

The separate Upholstery Tool provides a broader cleaning surface for compatible sofas, armchairs, cushions, car seats and fabric-covered furniture.

Cleaning solution is applied through the tool before the loosened dirt and excess moisture are drawn back into the dirty-water tank. Work in controlled passes and avoid repeatedly soaking the same section.

The Upholstery Tool should only be used on fabrics approved for water-based extraction cleaning. VAX advises against using the machine on water-sensitive materials such as silk or velvet.

Antimicrobial treatment on the cleaning tools

The bristles on selected cleaning tools receive an antimicrobial treatment that helps protect them against the growth of bacteria. This helps keep the brushes more hygienic between uses when compared with untreated tools.

Results will vary according to the type and age of the stain, carpet construction, selected cleaning mode and the solution used. The bacteria-removal claim applies specifically when the machine is used with the stated VAX Platinum cleaning formula.

Compatible VAX Platinum Professional Solution also features Carpetguard protection and is approved by The WoolSafe Organisation for use on suitable wool and synthetic carpets and upholstery. Always check the manufacturer’s care label before cleaning wool or other specialist fibres.

Large twin-tank system

The Platinum Power Max has a generous 3.5-litre clean-water tank and a separate 2.9-litre dirty-water tank. Keeping clean and extracted water apart ensures that only fresh water and cleaning solution are applied to the carpet.

The large capacities reduce the number of interruptions required when washing bigger rooms. The transparent tanks also make it easier to monitor the remaining clean water and see the dirt being extracted from the carpet.

The dirty-water tank should be emptied once it reaches the indicated maximum level. Both tanks must be emptied, rinsed and allowed to dry after use to prevent residue and stale odours from developing.

Wash and rinse control

The Platinum Power Max gives you the option to wash with cleaning solution or complete a water-only rinse. A rinse pass can help remove residual detergent from the carpet after the main cleaning process.

This is useful where too much solution may previously have been applied or where the carpet has been cleaned several times with detergent. Finish with additional dry extraction passes to remove as much moisture as possible.

Long reach for larger homes

The nine-metre power cable provides excellent room-to-room reach and reduces how frequently the cleaner needs to be moved between sockets.

For above-floor cleaning, the 2.5-metre hose provides enough reach to work along carpeted stairs or around furniture while the main machine remains on a stable surface.

Suitable surfaces and important limitations

The VAX Platinum Power Max is intended for suitable fitted carpets, rugs, carpeted stairs and water-safe upholstery. Always check the care label and test a small hidden area for colourfastness before cleaning a complete surface.

Do not use the machine on hard floors unless a compatible VAX hard-floor accessory specifically approved for this model is fitted. A hard-floor adapter is not listed as part of the standard ECB1SPV1 package.

The machine should not be used on silk, velvet or other water-sensitive fabrics. It is also not designed to collect dry dust, rubble, ash or large loose debris.

Best-practice cleaning technique

Begin by vacuuming the carpet thoroughly and moving as much furniture as possible. Fill the clean-water tank with warm water no hotter than 40°C and add compatible VAX cleaning solution to the separate solution compartment.

Work from the far side of the room towards the exit. Move the machine forward slowly while holding the solution trigger, then release the trigger and pull backwards over the same section to extract the dirty water.

Use fewer wet passes and more dry extraction passes to avoid over-wetting. Improving ventilation by opening windows or increasing airflow through the room will also help shorten drying time.

Cleaning and maintenance after use

A full-sized carpet washer requires more maintenance than an ordinary vacuum cleaner. Empty and rinse both water tanks immediately after use, then remove hair, carpet fibres and debris from the floorhead and SpinScrub brushes.

The SpinScrub brushes are removable, making it easier to clean accumulated fibres and rinse away detergent residue. The hose and hand tools should also be flushed with clean water after spot or upholstery cleaning.

Allow all washable parts to dry fully before refitting them or placing the cleaner into storage. Correct maintenance helps preserve suction, prevents unpleasant smells and keeps the rotating brushes operating effectively.
